Soundcraftsmen CX4200 Preamp / Equalizer
SERVICED:
*all electrolytic capacitors replaced with Nichicon audio capacitors. A mix of 'Muse' and 'Fine Gold' series.
*remelted and added solder to every switch pin
*switches and potentiometers lubed/cleaned with Deoxit
*calibrated comparator LEDs and gain with signal generator
*all sliders removed, disassembled, and tracks cleaned
*wire-wrap wiring replaced on sliders
*replaced all op-amps with new Texas Instruments ICs
*repainted top cover and cleaned side-boards
*tested
This model is a preamp and equalizer combination with Differential-Comparator and phono Cartidge-Match systems. It also has CX record decoding capability. It can be turned on or off to play CX or traditional RIAA records. It had all electrolytic capacitors replaced with high quality Nichicon audio capacitors. All switches and pots were sprayed with deoxit and worked. Each individual slider was removed and disassembled. The metal strip was cleaned with a fine brass brush and the carbon strip cleaned with alcohol and q-tips. Then the whole thing is greased and reassembled. This is very time consuming, but must be done to get rid of the typical sticky sliders. They become very dirty and the grease dries out over time. This one is clean and fresh again! The wire-wrap wiring was also replaced at this time on all slider signal wires. The unit was then tested. This was the top model with most features and this one works as good as you will find and you know it will sound as good as it can. It has hand tuned inductive coils that are the real thing, unlike most EQs that use ICs to mimic the effect. This was an upgrade over the lower models and provides higher S/N ratio and boost/cut.
