Description
I purchased two such monkeys at an auction of mostly old Steiffs. They were listed as Bing monkey's but when researching on line there were none like it. There were similar listed as Schucos but they did not look as old. Further research into the Schuco company said that Schuco was a former employee of Gerbruder Bing (two brothers that founded a toy company in 1863) and Schuco started his own toy company in the early 20's. There are no labels or tags so I can't be certain of the actual maker. He is made of faded blue felt, a tan felt face, with a mohair body. The mohair head is in pretty good condition but the mohair paws are thin. The body is stuffed with straw. The glass eyes are cool, yellow, red and black. He is missing one small brown felt ear. When you move the tail his jointed head turns side to side and up and down thus the name yes no. This is in very good shape, lots of motion. I'm not sure if it ever stood, right now the legs seem to fragile to try. There are some condition issues:
The left arm is detached, held together by stitching at the shoulder. Left paw missing cloth. The felt jacket is pretty good, faded one missing button.
The bottom half is in poor condition. The cloth that made his pants has deteriorated, exposing the straw stuffing. The right leg is detached, held on by stitching. Right pant leg is mostly gone. Left bottom foot, cloth gone exposing straw. The tail is cute and the head looks good for its age.
Please see all photos to judge condition for yourself and ask if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Please understand that this monkey has condition issues.
It is 9" tall in the sitting pose.
