Street Banner from the 1988 Mexican Presidential Election supporting PRI.
A brave (and inebriated) American college student, on Spring Break, may have risked a stint in a Mexican jail to scale a tree/light pole to obtain this one of a kind collectible.  It has been hanging on the same wall for over 30 years in a smoke free and pet free home in a room with no direct sunlight.
This linen banner supporting PRI (Institiutional Revolutionary Party) hung in the streets of Cancun within the state of Quintana Roo during the Spring of 1988 preceding the historic 1988 Mexican Presidential Election.  The PRI ruled Mexico for 71 years from 1929 - 2000.  In all presidential elections during the PRI era the ruling dictatorship received over 75% for the popular vote, however in 1988 less than 51% of the ballots were for the PRI candidate.
This banner was not made to withstand time.  The white has become discolored over time.  The linen is thin, so no attempt has been made to clean the banner.
Condition is "Used", but has no rips, snags or tears.
