Conch Belize folk art lamp

Description

This conch shell measures almost 9 inches tall and weighs 4.5 pounds unpacked.  On the bottom of the black wooden base are the words " Recuerdos de Jilma Pedro Y ???g  Mario,  that is all I can make out.  No one can figure out how this piece lights up or how the light went into it. In other words, it is a mystery.  I found this piece incredibly filthy and cleaned it with extreme care.  Perhaps, not well enough but I leave that to other  who have better hands, and fingers than I do.  I thought the gold scales was paint pealing off but discovered it was part of the growing process.  this is not a piece that comes from a gift shop and marked Made in China.  Please look at the photos and I think you will agree it is true folk art and manybe you can figure out how to make it work.  Payment is due two days after the end of the auction.  Upon receipt, I try to ship within two days.  no returns so please ask questions before bidding.
