Description
Up for sale is a completed, hand crafted Crewel Embroidery from JCA Needle Treasures Collection.. It is a lovely still life of a bunch of tulips in a vase. In the background is a lively quilt from which is name of this embroidery is based. This colorart embroidery was done in 2003. This particular embroidery is the original model for kit number #00677. On the back there is a label indicating the original name of this was "quilted comfort" and also that this was the original photo model. This kit was discontinued in 2006.
This was designed by Arketa Pech. Also included is a picture of a LE artist proof print on paper which is for sale for 5.00 on the internet. What better way to have something special by this artist. This crewel is almost like having an original.
At one time this was in a frame and photographed as the model that went on to the kit packages.
This type of embroidery is called Colorart in which the design is printed onto polyester fabric and then embellished with stitches. In this case, the tulips and some of the leaves are done in crewel embroidery. The colors are so vivid. Usually colorart is adapted from an artist's design. In this case I cannot read the name of the artist which appears at the right hand corner.
the size is 18 x 22 and the fabric is stretched and mounted onto plywood backing. There is a white mat - however, the mat is dingy from being in storage all these years and has some glue residue which you might be able to remove with a gum eraser. Otherwise you might have to replace the mat.
This picture was a model to an embroidery kit which would have been on display in a store to show the prospective buyers how the item will look when finished.
Included in the listing is a picture of the kit for this item which is shown for reference only as this embroidery does not come with the kit. Recently saw the kit for sale at over .00.
I learned recently that the name on many of these finished pieces identified the company as JCA Inc. with an address in Massachusettes. They evidently ceased operations and will not be making/distributing anymore needlecraft kits. These finished piece from kits are already hard to find and will only be offered occasionally perhaps on the internet. Per the JCA website:
"Due to the death of our owner, Alan S. Getz, JCA, Inc. has ceased operations indefinitely.
We would like to thank our loyal customers who have supported JCA for over 50 years.
JCA manufactures premium needlecraft products and distributes fine knitting yarns. We are an amalgamation of three companies-Paternayan Brothers (started in 1939), Elsa Williams (started in 1960) and Reynolds Yarns (also started in 1960)."
