Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1979 Chevy C30 dually with a steel Flatbed. Many use the term "California Truck" when referencing a truck that has not been exposed to cancerous elements that cause rust. Many of these trucks may of spent some time in California but are not true California trucks. A true California truck is one that was built in California, Sold new in California and spent its life living in the mild climate of California. This 1979 Chevy C30 is a true California truck; it was built in Fremont, California (at the current Tesla Motors Factory site), sold new 17 miles south in San Jose,CA and lived its life working in the greater Silicon Valley. The truck was owned by a Union Carpenter in San Jose,CA. A working man is as only as good as his tools. He specifically ordered the truck for a purpose and opted for a longer 159.5 wheelbase cab and chassis, to haul larger materials. He opted for the Custom Deluxe trim with manual windows and locks, in hindsight a better option due to the notorious power window failures in this era of GM trucks. Some notable special orders are a factory tachometer and a rear locking axle with 4.10 gears. A squarebody with a factory tachometer is always a rare find, what is even more rare is when the tachometer is actually working like it is in this very truck. The body is free of rust and solid. The truck was built as a cab and chassis and had the diamond plated steel flatbed installed for the dealers by Kitterman in San Jose, CA. This is a great opportunity to get a practical and capable work truck with unique options that is appreciating in value.
Cosmetically this truck is in decent shape. What you see is what you get, there isn't any hidden surprises. The underneath is very solid and free of rust. The paint is not perfect with imperfections and touch ups. The passenger fender is the worst of the dents otherwise all the other panels and doors are straight. All the rocker panels are free of rust as well as the frame. The diamond plated steel flatbed is heavy duty and authentic, it is  in great shape as well as the wood panels. The original grill is in great shape as well as all the bezels.
Step inside and the interior is in fair conditions. All the gauges are functional even the factory tachometer. The heater vents are operable. The radio has been removed. The original carpet is used but mostly complete. The original door panels are not cracked and complete. The dash cover looks good. the original visors are present.
Mechanically this truck is a runner and driver. It has been a truck that has been maintained by necessity but has spent the most recent years mostly sitting. The truck will need shocks in the front, the tires are old but hold air fine. The 350 V8 is plenty powerful and the Th400 shifts smooth. The Corporate 14 rear end with posi and 4.10 gears is a fantastic combination capable of anything you can throw at it. All the lights work. The truck drives down the road and steering fine. (
